For several months now, Ciba's Ultragreen CD-R dye media made according to a manufacturing process developed at Plasmon have been demonstrated to be capable of recording speeds of 52x and even faster. But for the end user, what is most important is the speed their burner actually chooses to write discs reliably.
The collaboration with CD-R/RW drive manufacturers is needed to ensure that drives are programmed to burn discs at the maximum speeds of which they are capable. Most 48x drives in the market already support Ultragreen at 48x, now LiteOn and Ricoh have been the first companies to support also 52x recording. The Ricoh NSS48 will burn Plasmon coded Ultragreen media at 52x from firmware version 1.04, and the LiteOn LTR52246S from version 6S01.
Other 52x drive manufacturers are testing Ultragreen discs and more news is expected shortly. And if even faster drives appear on the market, you can be sure Ultragreen performance will be there to set to standard!
Ciba IRGAPHOR Ultragreen MX is today's market leading phthalocyanine dye for CD-R, qualified and used by major CD-R brands and manufacturers. Ciba's cutting edge Ultragreen technology together with Plasmon's expertise in optical media engineering is available to media manufacturers worldwide.
