Message Text: It took just one demonstration of the Compact Disc at Philips’ Dutch headquarters some 20 years ago for Emil Petrone, then an executive board member of PolyGram (owned by Philips at the time), to understand that the format would revolutionize the music industry. Representing the CD Group, a trade group of electronics manufacturers and record labels formed to promote the format, Petrone embarked on a circuit of TV appearances to show the system to U.S. audiences following its October 1982 launch in Japan.
