Message Text: Toshiba's Storage Device Division (SDD) extended its leadership in the development of optical storage products with the introduction of the SD-R6012 slim combination drive, the industry's first combination DVD/CD recordable drive for mobile computers!

The SD-R6012 makes it possible for notebook and laptop computers to have unprecedented functionality - the same DVD recordability as desktop computers, for applications such as audio and video editing and personal digital compilations. It is a stepping stone from CD to DVD technology for creating and storing family photos, files, videos and other memories.

Based on the DVD-R/RW format, Toshiba's combination drives support the most widely compatible DVD standard, giving consumers the highest level of compatibility with legacy DVD devices. The SD-R6012 weighs just 0.2KG.

"Consumers are looking to create, edit, and burn both work-related and personal digital video productions no matter where they are," said James Armour, European Engineering Expert, Toshiba SDD. "With this lightweight combination drive, Toshiba is the first in the market to bring DVD recording to the mobile computing world.

"DVD is expected to replace videotape, has already replaced laser disc and will eventually replace CD-ROM/RW technology to become the de facto standard for home entertainment and lifestyle computing. Our new drive is a sound investment for consumers wanting to make a simple transition from CD to DVD technology," he added.

The SD-R6012 slim drive supports writing DVD-R/RW at 1X, writing CD-R/RW at 16x/10x, and reads 8X DVD and 24X CD.
