Samsung Electronics is said to be planning to release application processors (AP) for vehicles.

According to industry sources in South Korea, Samsung Electronics' DS (Device Solution) Division's System LSI Business Department is developing an AP called 'Exynos Auto' and is planning to establish mass-production system by the end of this year. It is heard that it will supply Exynos Auto to customers including Audi and Harman. The AP will feature an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) block for AI (Artificial Intelligence) calculations along with an LTE modem.

Samsung's new AP will meet the ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) B standard safety level, as it will be mainly powering in-car infotainment systems.

The automotive system semiconductor market is currently led by NXP, Renesas, Infineon, Intel and Qualcomm.
