Message Text: Imation Corp. today announced it is showcasing its full portfolio of write-once and rewritable DVD media offerings at TECHXNY/PCEXPO 2002 in Booth #3904 and in the Recordable DVD Pavilion in Booth #2422. These offerings include DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD+R media in capacities from 2.6GB to 9.4GB.

Imation's portfolio of rewritable and write-once DVD products provide cost-effective solutions for personal and professional video production, editing, distribution and playback as well as computer backup and secondary storage. With the storage capacity of seven CD-R/RW discs and the potential to store thousands of digital photographs or approximately two hours of digital video, Imation DVD media is also ideal for the combined storage of music, video and data, large capacity data files, Internet downloads and massive archival storage.

"Recordable and rewritable DVD media are fast growing segments within the optical media market," said Wolfgang Schlichting, Research Manager, Removable Storage at IDC. "DVD technology is becoming increasingly popular for archiving home videos from digital camcorders, recording TV shows, backing up hard drives or saving and sharing professional video and multimedia projects."

Although the technology is quickly catching on, recordable DVD standards, however, are in flux as consumer electronics companies promote different standards. Each format has different specifications, drive or player requirements, and not all formats are intended for every purpose-- special formats have been designed for video and data, others for just data or just video.

"The next wave of optical storage with DVD is exciting. However, considerable confusion exists with customers concerning the various DVD media formats," said Steve Carter, Imation Corp. vice president and general manager, Imation Personal Storage Solutions Business. "As the overall DVD media market is projected to grow 446% over last year, there is a huge need for education among all media formats and all application requirements. That is why Imation is committed to bringing recordable DVD media to market in all of the major formats, and to helping customers make the right technology choices for their home or business."

The growing demand for DVD media is largely due to the continued consumer adoption of digital video and digital photography, and the demand for high-capacity storage to support those applications. With up to 9.4GB of storage capacity, Imation DVD media is a particularly strong option for increasingly popular video applications, as well as backing up data-heavy applications and large hard drives. Imation's portfolio of DVD recordable media includes DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, and DVD-RAM.

DVD+RW

Imation DVD+RW discs are ideal for storing data and video content for PC and entertainment applications. Each disc can hold 4.7GB of information, which translates to more than two hours of high quality MPEG2 DVD video with excellent picture quality, while also allowing for the storing of a combination of both digital video and digital audio files on the same disc. Similar to CD-RW discs, DVD+RW media can be written more than 1,000 times.

DVD+R

The newest addition to Imation's portfolio of DVD offerings, DVD+R discs extend the functionality of the DVD+RW media in a write-once format. With 4.7GB of storage capacity, users can store thousands of digital photographs or up to two hours of digital video. These new discs are certified for 2.4x DVD recording speed, which is equivalent to 3.32MB per second or 22x CD-R performance--the fastest recording speed of any current DVD format. Imation DVD+R is ideal for anyone requiring data-intensive, high-performance application needs.

DVD-R

Imation DVD-R is a write-once format that holds up to 4.7GB f high-density data, including the combined storage of music, video and data, transfer of video or large capacity data files, Internet downloads and massive archival storage. These discs are capable of producing pre-mastering discs and are ideal for high-volume data recording, archiving and playback. By using DVD-R, information is permanently recorded and cannot be altered or erased.

DVD-RW

DVD-RW is a rewritable format that allows users to record, erase and re-record their own discs more than 1,000 times. Officially known as DVD Re-Recordable, DVD-RW can be thought of as a rewritable version of the write once DVD-R format. Compatible with existing DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives, DVD-RW discs can hold up to 4.7GB of information - ideal for long-term data archiving or the combined storage of video, audio and data applications.

DVD-RAM

Imation DVD-RAM discs offer a complete storage solutions for data-intensive, high-performance applications. All data stored on DVD-RAM media can be accessed in the same manner as a hard drive, with drag and drop capabilities, and can be rewritten up to 100,000 times. Imation's DVD-RAM media is available in 2.6GB and 4.7GB single-sided removable discs (Type II) and 5.2GB and 9.4GB two-sided non-removable discs (Type I).
