Message Text: Sony Japan announced today a new CD-RW drive with the codename "CRX195A1". The drive supports 40x writing, 12x re-writing, 48x reading, 2MB buffer and "Power-Burn" buffer-underrun protection. Sony said drive expected to hit Japanese market around 20th of April.

Features:

Writing Speed: 8x, 12x, 16x (CLV), 18-40x (Partial-CAV)
Re-Writing Speed: 4x, 8x, 10x, 12x (CLV)
Reading Speed: 48x (via special "turbo" function)
Buffer: 2MB
Access time: 150ms
Supports both 12 and 8cm CDs

As it seems the drive is based upon LiteOn LTR-40125W, and probably would become the first P-CAV recorder at this high recording speed. Yamaha is expected to follow around middle of May with their next P-CAV recorder.
