Message Text: The new CD-W28PU’s equipment predetermine it for demanding business applications. The portable 8x/8x/24x drive with quality aluminium finish has multiple technological facets: the new USB 2.0 interface to which the drive can be connected, provides considerably higher transfer rates (up to 480 MB/s) as IEEE 1394 or Ultra SCSI for example. For those who do not have a USB 2.0 port, the CD-W28PU can also be operated on the conventional USB port, as it is fully downward compatible with the USB specification 1.1. The speed gain is a visible plus. With both burning and data reading the difference to the USB 1.1 is clearly noticeable.

The producers of the attractively designed drive with a burning performance of 8x in write and rewrite mode and a reading speed of 24x, report that it can attain data transfer rates of 1.2 MB in the write mode (CD-R and CD-RW) and 3.6 MB in the read mode. The average access time is approx. 110 milliseconds. The 2MB intermediate memory (˛buffer˛) is also used to save data into the main memory of the PC and to ˛free˛ the data from there as and when necessary. This enables continual data access, and thereby optimizes burning results.

The CD-W28PU is compatible with Windows 98SE, ME, Windows 2000 and XP. Pre-mastering software for this operating system is included in the delivery. The standards High Sierra, ISO 9660, CD-DA, CD-ROM Mode 1 and 2, CD-ROM XA form 1 and 2, CD-i, Video CD, Multisession, CD PLUS, CD Text are all supported. The drive supports Disk-at-Once, Track-at-Once, Session-at-Once and Packet Writing in the recording mode.

The new TEAC CD-W28PU kit is delivered with a CD-R and CD-RW blank, the necessary connection cables, a network adapter and a manual in several languages. The drive will be available from specialist shops and major electronics outlets.
