Plextor Japan will announce soon a new portable external CD-RW drive with the code name "PX-S88TU". The drive was spotted at the Cebit 2001 show from our team and as it seems comes finally with USB 2.0 interface and supports: 8x writing, 8x re-writing and 24x reading speeds. The drive seems based upon the internal PX-W88TA that was announced from Plextor USA this week. The drive will ship in Japan at late August in the price of 35,000 Yen ($280)..No information is yet published about the shipment for Europe/USA.
The drive has two colours of the silver and the blue and accepts both 8cm/12cm CDs. The drive support BURN-Proof and comes with 2MB of buffer. It needs external power adaptor and its dimensions are 141?171?22mm (width x depth x height). Last it weights 500g making it an ideal solution for portable users.
