Addonics products that will ship with the new USB 2.0 cable include the Addonics 16X Mobile CDRW, 12X Mobile DVD/CDRW combo drive, and Pocket ExDrive hard drive. The new USB 2.0 standard increases the USB data transfer rate of 12 Mbits/sec (1.5 MBytes/sec) up to 480Mbits/sec (or 60MBytes /sec).
Customers with existing Addonics external storage devices can upgrade to USB 2.0 by purchasing an Addonics USB 2.0 cable for $29 before the end of August. The cable will have a list price of $59. Because many notebook and desktop PCs do not have a USB 2.0 port, Addonics will offer a USB 2.0 PCI add on card for desktop PCs, and a PCMCIA USB 2.0 adapter for notebook PCs to allow users to upgrade their systems to take advantage of USB 2.0's high throughput. The PCI card has a list price of $59. The PCMCIA adapter will be list priced at $99..."
