"...Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC), Storage Device Division (SDD) today announced it will offer slim-line CD-R/RW as an extension to its line of market-leading optical products for notebook computers, providing mobile PC manufacturers with a full slate of optical products to meet their customers' needs. First to offer a slim-line combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM product, Toshiba SDD is extending its mobile rewritable technology leadership to the popular CD-R/RW format to provide PC OEMs with the full range of storage options that can help create differentiation in their product offerings based on customer profiles and needs.
The SR-C8002 slim-line CD-R/RW drive reads CD-R/CD-RW media with a capacity of 650MB. The drive features a fast-writing and read speed of 8X for CD-R and CD-RW and employs a full 24X speed maximum playback for CD-ROM. It is currently available in volume production to mobile PC manufacturers.
Toshiba has also improved the performance capabilities of its popular desk-top combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM upgrade kit. Now available online at www.sdd.toshiba.com, the new upgrade kit features the 8x8x32x8 SD-R1102 CD-RW/DVD-ROM ATAPI combination drive as well as Cyberlink's Power DVDTM software decoder and VOB Instant CD/DVD for CD creation and backup..."
