Message Text: "...Publisher Codemasters' new system FADE can tell the difference between a legitimate copy of the game CD and a pirated one. If it detects an illegal CD, it will gradually degrade elements of the game to the point where the game becomes no longer playable.

A Codemasters representative described the company's hopes that the system would prevent piracy, stating: "Anyone considering getting an illegal version will not be convinced they'll get the fully-playable game.". To avoid the danger of users blaming the degradation on poor-quality software, the player will be informed when FADE is in use, with a message saying "Original discs don't FADE"..."
