 Rimage unveils breakthrough CD-R/DVD-R color surface printer

Message Text: "...Rimage today announced that it will unveil to its North American distributors on May 15 its new Everest color printer, based on breakthrough printing technology that enables the Everest to provide offset quality, photo-realistic printing on the surface of CD-R and DVD-R discs. The Company will unveil its Everest printer to overseas distributors later this week.

The Everest printer has important advantages over conventional color printers utilizing thermal or ink jet printing technologies, neither of which can simultaneously achieve photo-realism and print durability. The Everest's color printing exceeds magazine print quality, enabling it to accurately reproduce color disc surface photos and other complex graphics. Everest print quality is robust, durable and fade-resistant, and it operates at high production rates for on-demand printing.

The Company said it has collaborated with ALPS Electric, a major Japanese electronics company, for more than a year in developing a color surface printer based on ALPS' variable-dot MicroDry printing technology. Rimage adapted this technology to the demands of CD-R/DVD-R printing, resulting in an innovative new thermal re-transfer printing process. Various patents are pending on the Everest printer, which will be manufactured exclusively for Rimage by ALPS..."
