 CES: Samsung Introduces Odyssey Gaming Notebook, New Chromebooks, Updates the Notebook 9

This year at CES, Samsung a range of new PCs including the Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro, a 15-inch Notebook 9 with a discrete GPU, and Samsung's first-ever gaming laptop, the Notebook Odyssey.



The Samsung Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro are convertible laptops designed for Google Play, and can run apps from the Google Play Store. The new Chromebooks feature a metal body, and also go from notebook to tablet in a single snap. Thanks to Quad HD screen, the Samsung Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro perform equally well as both tablet and laptop, and are also the very first Chromebooks to come with an embedded digitizer pen. The Chromebook Plus will be available with an ARM CPU, and for those looking for even stronger performance, the Chromebook Pro will be powered by an Intel core M3 CPU.

For the first time in the Chromebook lineup the Chromebook Plus and Pro come with a built-in pen, which is embedded on the side of the device for secure storage and easy access. The pen is ready to use out of the box with pre-installed Google Keep for notetaking and Samsung ArtCanvas for drawing. The pen has a 0.7mm pen tip and pressure sensitivity for precise screen capturing.

The Chromebooks feature a Quad HD 2400x1600 resolution display made of durable Gorilla Glass 3, with a 3:2 aspect ratio. They also have upgraded their ports, and now include two USB-C ports for 4k video streaming.

The new Chromebooks have 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and feature batteries that last up to 8 hours, as well as an enhanced battery life extender to lengthen productivity time. Samsung Chromebook Plus will feature an ARM processor starting at $449 and will be available at major retailers, including Best Buy, in February. The Chromebook Pro will be powered by an Intel Core m3 processor will be available later this Spring. Both devices will come with the Google Play Store (Beta) pre-installed.

Samsung's new 15-inch Notebook 9, which will be available in the U.S. this year, is built for performance and mobility. Powered by the 7th-generation Intel Kaby Lake processor, it also features an NVIDIA 940MX graphics card and a 2.0 GPU boost.

The notebook offers software solutions for peer-to-peer sharing with other devices including smartphones.

Its battery lasts for up to 15 hours on a single charge, and users can fully recharge it in less than 2 hours, or get more than 3.5 hours of power in just 20 minutes.

The latest USB Type-C port lets users charge the Samsung Notebook 9 through via a cell-phone charger, and also enables quick data transfer and connectivity to displays and other devices.

The Samsung Notebook 9 includes a built-in fingerprint sensor as well as support for Windows Hello, which enables secure sign in with a single touch, so users can log into the Windows 10 device without typing in a password.

Lastly, Samsung's first-ever gaming laptop, the Samsung Notebook Odyssey, will be available in 15 and 17-inch screen sizes. The 15-inch Odyssey is powered by Intel's 7th-generation Core i7 processor, with up to 32 GB of 2400 Mhz DDR4 RAM, up to 256 GB SSD and HDD dual storage, and an NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics card.

Usability has also been enhanced with a built-in shortcut to maximize performance. At the push of a button, supercharge the Odyssey's processor, graphics, and memory to realize a greater gaming experience.

HexaFlow Vent is a cooling and ventilation system that helps the device remain cool. Created for performance, users can open the HexaFlow Vent, which is located on the bottom panel of the device, to upgrade the storage and memory.

In addition to its high-performing engine, the Samsung Notebook Odyssey 17.3-inch offers a backlight that goes up to 300 nits (280 nits on 15.6-inch) in brightness. Its screen also includes an anti-glare surface treatment to minimize reflection.

The Samsung Notebook Odyssey's keyboard includes ergonomically curved keycaps (0.5mm volcano keycaps on the 17.3-inch, 0.3mm crater keycaps and backlit WASD keys to provide users with optimal interactions on the 15.6-inch). For personalization and easy access to crucial keys, users can also choose the backlit color of individual keycaps on the Samsung Notebook Odyssey 17.3-inch.

In addition to its gaming features, the Samsung Notebook Odyssey includes exclusive software solutions for peer-to-peer sharing with other devices such as smartphones. With PC Message and PC Gallery, gamers can easily share files, messages and photos anytime, anywhere.
