Message Text: "...Leveraging its expertise in FireWire (IEEE 1394) storage solutions, LaCie is giving the more than 4,000 attendees to the Apple World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) an advanced look at the next generation of high-capacity, high-performance rewriteable DVD drives this week. Scheduled for delivery this summer, the new high-speed DVD-RAM drives will provide users with the hot-swappable performance of FireWire connectivity as well as single-sided 4.7GB and double-sided 9.4GB removable, rewriteable storage capacity.

As the Apple hardware and software developers learn more about the soon-to-be released Mac OS X, new hardware computer systems and advances in media technology, LaCie will be demonstrating the second generation 4.7GB DVD-RAM storage systems that will be available later this summer.

Equipped with a 400 Mbps FireWire interface, LaCie's FireWire DVD-RAM drives can be quickly connected to the native FireWire ports that are standard with Macintosh G3, G4 and iMac DV systems and PCs incorporating Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows 2000. Once connected, the drive mounts automatically without requiring terminators, device IDs or elaborate setup.

Prices, Availability:
The LaCie FireWire DVD-RAM subsystems will be available later this summer through leading distributors and resellers across the country. The product will be offered in external configurations and include cables, the LaCie DVD-RAM software drivers for Windows 95/98/NT/2000 and Macintosh operating systems, and one DVD-RAM disc. DVD-RAM media will be available in single-sided 4.7GB disc and double-sided 9.4GB disc formats. Pricing has not yet been established..."
