Message Text: Samsung Electronics Co. is mulling to add an artificial intelligence (AI) features to its smartphones, the company executive vice president said on Thursday.

"We are considering featuring AI technology to our Galaxy smartphones," Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President Rhee Injong said to a Maeil Business Newspaper reporter on Thursday. "When all smart devices employ AI technology, we will be able to build a smart home system that is very convenient to use."

AI features currently available at smartphones are Apple's Siri, Google Now and Microsoft's Cortana. Samsung Electronics is currently developing the so-called AI secretary service for its smartphones, using its voice recognition technology.

The company has been making efforts to develop AI. Early last year, Samsung Venture Investment, Samsung Group’s investment arm, invested 20 billion won ($17 million) in Jibo, a venture company specializing in home robot development. Samsung has also invested about 23.4 billion won in Vicarious, a San Francisco-based startup company that develops AI technology, in August last year.
