Message Text: "..Elantec Semiconductor announces the addition of a new small form-factor laser driver to its highly successful family of integrated laser driver ICs that are revolutionizing the rapid-growth optical disk storage market. The EL6279C integrates the four current channels needed for the read, erase, bias and write laser drive power levels with a high frequency modulator (HFM) oscillator and output current driver. It offers industry-standard functions and compatibility and is compliant with the Orange Specification Standard for CD-R and CD-R/W write speed formats.

Steve Sacarisen, Elantec's Director of Strategic Marketing, Optical Products Group said, "The EL6279C not only offers four channels of laser power control in the small form-factor 16-pin QSOP package, but the automatic disable function of the HFM on write cycles saves additional board logic thereby enabling higher speed designs. This product directly addresses the emerging market trend for slim (half-height) CD-R/RW drives in portable applications.'' Available now in the 16-pin QSOP package, the price for the EL6279C in order quantities of 1000 is $2.50 each.."
