Message Text: Pioneer's all-new BDP-170 is not your average Blu-ray Disc player, as it comes with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and offers Miracast streaming for smartphones and tablets.

The BDP-170 is DLNA Certified and enables access to YouTube and Picasa. The player even supports YouTube's 'Send to TV' feature, which allows the user select YouTube videos and control playback from his smartphone or tablet to a connected TV, by simply pushing a single button. The built-in Wi-Fi electronics (802.11 b/g/n) support Wi-Fi Direct communication with Miracast support. Miracast enables wireless transmission of audio and video content from smartphones and tablets to the BDP-170.

Naturally, the BDP-170 plays Blu-ray Discs, as well as DVD's and CD's. It will even spin high resolution Super Audio CD albums. The player is Blu-ray 3D compatible, it supports 36-bit Deep Colour and is equipped with an HDMI 1080p/24 Hz output.

The audio side is taken care of as well. The BDP-170 is compatible with the latest Dolby and DTS surround codecs - Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio ? and is equipped with a 2-channel 192 kHz/24 bit DAC.

The BDP-170 handles multiple file types, such as the mobile device-specific 3GP, FLV, MPEG, AVI and WMV, as well as high-quality FLAC audio files, WMA, MP3, MKV and DivX + HD.

The BD player incorporates several advanced functions, such as Quick Start/Quick Tray operation. Furthermore, the supplied remote has dedicated buttons for Miracast and YouTube. The new '1.5x View Scan with Audio' function allows the user to scan the contents of a Blu-ray Disc, while the audio is still understandable.

Last, but not least, the player can be controlled with the iControlAV5 app, which is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.apple.com/itunes. A dedicated app is also available as a free download for Android users via Google Play at play.google.com.

The BDP-170 Blu-ray Disc player will be available from June.
