eMachines announced its holiday line-up of PC products, including two redesigned PCs offering a premium multimedia experience, two flat-panel LCD monitors, and an upgraded version of its 54g(TM) wireless widescreen notebook PC.
Featuring an elegant new look and enhanced multimedia performance at affordable prices, the eMachines T2825 offers DVD and CD-RW drives for $619 while the T2865 offers multi-format (+/-) DVD-RW for compatibility with either standard at $719. Both desktop PCs feature:
-'8-in-1 Media Reader' for optimum flexibility in downloading digital audio and video from a wide range of new media devices such as MP3 players and digital cameras as well as from other computers
-NVIDIA® GeForce4(TM) MX graphics
-AMD Athlon(TM) 2800+ XP processor
-Six-channel audio and premium keyboard with "shortcuts" to key features
-Attractive new chassis with resilient black powder coating and metallic silver front panel
-Metal-stamped "e" logo power button with blue LED "halo"
eMachines is also introducing 15-inch E15T and 17-inch E17T flat-panel LCD monitors starting at $299 (the E17T monitor is available in November). The M5312, eMachines' high-speed wireless widescreen notebook optimized for DVD viewing, refreshes the previous model with additional hard drive storage for $1,249.
The 8-in-1 media reader on the front panel of the T2825 and T2865 PCs offers compatibility with all major digital storage technology, including Secure Digital, Smart Media, Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Micro Drive, Multimedia Card media, and USB 2.0 mini-flash drives.
eMachines' entry-level PC, the T2542 priced at $399 after $50 mail-in rebate, includes CD-RW for CD "burning," as well as 256MB DDR memory for the first time at this price point. For $479 after $50 mail-in rebate, consumers can step up to the T2682 which includes an Intel® Celeron® 2.60 GHz processor, double the hard drive storage at 80GB, and CDRW and DVD drives. Both systems incorporate the new Intel Extreme(TM) graphics chip set (Intel 845 GV), providing users up to 20-percent performance gains with 3D games and other graphics-intensive applications over previous models at these price points.
The E15T and E17T flat-panel LCD monitors combine acute pixel pitch ratios (0.29mm for 15-inch E15T; 0.26 for 17-inch E17T) with vibrant screen resolution rates (1024x768 for E15T; 1280x1024 for E17T). Both LCD monitor models include a single power and video cable that reduces cable clutter on and under the desktop. eMachines' new displays deliver rich, saturated colors with crisp images to enjoy DVD movies, Web surfing and gaming. The E15T is available for $299 after $100 mail-in rebate while the E17T will be available for $399 after $100 mail-in rebate.
eMachines' M5312 wireless widescreen notebook incorporates the 54g wireless local area network (WLAN) chipset from Broadcom, extending the data transmission rate of the 802.11b wireless standard from 11 megabits per second (Mbps) to 54 Mbps while maintaining compatibility with the 40-million 802.11b devices on the market.
Similar to the widescreen TV format, the M5312's 15.4-inch LCD display features a 16:10 aspect ratio and displays up to 30 percent more DVD viewing area than a standard 15-inch notebook screen. The system also features an AMD Athlon2400+ processor, 60GB hard drive, and a 1394 FireWire port for high-speed connection to computer peripherals such as digital cameras and printers.
eMachines supports all of its PCs and monitors through a comprehensive Customer Care program comprised of one-year free parts, labor and technical support with several service options, including an End-User Replaceable Parts Program, five-day depot repair, and nationwide authorized service centers.
On-site service is also available to customers purchasing two- or three-year extended service plans. The two-year plan costs $99 and the three-year plan costs $139 when purchased by the customer within 90 days of the PC purchase.
In addition, a pro-active service tool called BigFix® is available at no charge on every eMachines system. With the customer's permission, BigFix identifies and sends 'Fixlet' messages offering upgrades to enhance the performance or capabilities of the customer's specific PC configuration. For instance, eMachines users who have activated the BigFix application are offered Microsoft® XP operating system updates to prevent damage from the latest worm or virus, or a new video driver to support the latest computer games.
eMachines' PC line-up features the Microsoft Windows® XP Home operating system, Microsoft Works 6.0 or 7.0, Microsoft Money 2003 or 2004, Encarta Online, Adobe® Acrobat® Reader(TM), Power DVD, Microsoft Media Player, Real Player, Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, CompuServe, MSN, three-month AOL membership and Roxio Easy CD Creator Basic Edition on the high-end T2865 model.
Norton AntiVirus 2003 comes pre-installed on all eMachines PCs, providing protection from all previously released computer viruses. After three months, users can choose to subscribe to anti-virus updates from Symantec for protection from future viruses.
