Message Text: Chinese handset maker ZTE is expanding its Nubia brand with the 5-inch Z5S and the Z5S mini models.

The flagship Z5S device is a 5-inch smartphone packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz processor, a 443 pixel-per-inch touchscreen, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera that can also shoot 4K video at a resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels, 2GB RAM, and a 2,300mAh battery. It weighs 126 grams. ZTE is also offering a Z5S LTE model that supports both FD-LTE Band 3 plus China's TD-LTE Band 38/40.

The 4.7-inch Z5S mini and Z5S mini LTE models feaure a 2.67mm bezel, microSD expansion, 13MP/5MP camera combo, swappable back cover and the support of the three 3G networks in China. They are based on the newer 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 chip, have a new IGZO 720p display and a 2,000mAh battery.

The new devices will be available for pre-order in China later this month. But the phones will also appear in foreign markets such as the U.S. and Europe, probably by next year's first quarter, according to the company.

In China, the Z5S LTE 32GB version of the device will be priced at 3456 yuan (US$564). The 3G version with 16GB in storage will go for 1999 yuan ($326).

The 32GB version of the Z5S mini LTE will retail for 2,345 yuan (US$390). The 3G-only Z5S mini starts from just 1,499 yuan (about US$250) with 16GB storage.

ZTE is trying to popularize its smartphone brand in markets such as the U.S. to sell more high-end devices. In October, ZTE began selling the previous generation of Nubia phones in the U.S., making them available at Amazon.com, Target and RadioShack.
