Sharp will start shipping in Japan new TV models that use a conventional full HD panel, yet promise to offer superior imagery equivalent to 4K models.
Current 4K TVs offer four times the resolution of standard high-definition TV, but require a dedicated 4K resolution panel.
Sharp 's new Aquos Quattron Pro XL 10 series come equipped with standard
high-definition panels but according to Sharp, they are able to provide an image
equivalent to 4K quality by illuminating four parts of each picture element separately.
The new series will come in November 30 in five sizes ranging from 46 inches, priced at
around 260,000 yen ($2,652), to 80 inches, priced at around 880,000 yen.
