Message Text: WD has quitely added a new version ito its Black hard drive series of 3.5-inh desktop hard disk drives. The FZEX models offers capacities of 4TB/3TB/2TB 1TB and are faster than the company's FAEX series of HDDs.

The 4TB 7200 RPM drive still has five 800GB platters but its maximum sustained data rate has jumped from 154 to 171MB/s. In addition, the 3TB version has also a 168 MB/s data transfer rate (max), compared to the 154 MB/s performance quoted by WD for the 3TB FAEX model. WD claims that the new HDDs offer even larger performance increases.

The Black's higher speeds should be attributed to the use of the 'Advanced Format' (AF) and a new High Resolution Controller (HRC) with an improved architectural design, which offers increased data precision across the hard drive.

The WD Black hard drives also feature Vibration Control Technology (VCT) which allows the disks inside the drive to adapt to any mounting problems or vibration conditions that are inside your case, resulting in increased data accuracy, performance and reliability over time. In addition, WD Black is lso equipped with StableTrac Technology, which secures the motor shaft inside the drive at both ends to help reduce additional system-induced vibrations. StableTrac stabilizes the platters inside, resulting in more accurate tracking in a particular sector during read and write operations and delivers increased performance.

The Corruption Protection Technology (CPT) helps to protect and limit the potential problem of data loss during power failure or power loss to the hard drive.

WD?s Dynamic Cache Technology increases performance by improving caching algorithms in real time and optimizing the cache allocation between reads and writes. This results in the drive automatically allocating more cache for read data, which reduces data congestion and increases overall performance.

The drives are backed by WD's 5-year limited warranty.
