Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.,(Foxconn) and Mozilla will and unveil a new product running the Firefox operating system (OS) on June 3.
The two companies have alraedy sent invitations to media outlets for the event that will be held in Taiwan, Focus Taiwan reported today. There they will
formally announced their partnership as well as the introduction of a new Firefox OS device that day, which could be a either a smartphone or a tablet.
During this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Mozilla
announced its partners in its Firefox OS project, which include Deutsche Telekom, Sprint, SingTel, LG, Huawei and others.
The first preview versions of mobile phones running the Firefox OS were unveiled in late January by Spanish company GeeksPhone.
Hon Hai has been mainly making products for Apple, Hewlett-Packard and Nokia. Given the slow sales of its clients, the company could be
revamping its retail operations, which generate higher margins than contract manufacturing, while also aiming at investments in media contents and software. |
