Message Text: Google CEO Eric Schmidt has confirmed the existence of a Motorola-built Google X Phone, speaking at the D:Dive into Mobile conference in New York.

Rumors about a Google X Phone have been swirling around for almost six months. Eric Schmidt said that Motorola has a new set of products, describing them as "phenomenal and "very, very impressive." He did not elaborate more, but puzzled the audience by adding "think of it as phones-plus." This could mean we should not just expect a high-end, premium smartphone powered by fast processor or a super display.

According to rumors, the X Phone will be very robust due to its carbon fiber shell. It is also said to boast a flexible display and a Nikon camera. Its software would be a mix of Mozilla's Chrome OS and Android features, possibly in a new platform, which will also be open to customization.

The phone is expected to receive its first public outing at the Google I/O conference in May.
