Message Text: Hewlett-Packard is extending its 3PAR enterprise storage offerings with an all-SSD version of the P10000 array.

The new all-SSD configuration for HP 3PAR P10000 Storage supports up to 512 SSDs per array, reducing equipment costs, data-center footprint and energy expenses. HP says that client cost per input/output operations per second is reduced by 70 percent, and cost per kilowatt hour is cut by more than 80 percent.

The all-SSD version is available immediately starting at US $350,000.

Owners of the HP 3PAR P10000 systems are also able to combine SSDs with traditional Fibre Channel drives and deploy HP 3PAR Adaptive Optimization software to achieve autonomic storage tiering. Adaptive Optimization distributes data to the right storage tier at the right time, reducing data-center management costs and maximizing system performance.

Also on Monday, HP introduced HP Smart Cache, a server-based SSD cache feature for its ProLiant Generation 8 servers. The Smart Cache system is designed for data that's in high demand from apps running on the server. IT departments can use multiple standard drive bays in a Gen8 server for that high-speed cache. HP SmartCache will be available soon, according to the company. The Gen8 servers were announced earlier this year.
