Message Text: Apple will reportedly showcase a new version of the Apple TV operating system next week at WWDC.

Citing a "a trusted source", BGR.com reports that Apple's new OS would offer more features that the company's current OS that runs on the Apple TV devices, which stream content from Netflix and other sources.

The report continues saying that Apple will offer manufacturers an API in order to create peripheral devices and accessories compatible with the new Apple TV OS.

Analysts have been expecting Apple to enter the TV market with its own model sometime in 2012 or in early 2013. The specific OS update could be a first step towards this effort. Apple's CEO Tim Cook declined to comment on the company's plans for a new Apple TV during The Wall Street Journal?s D: All Things Digital conference held through March 31 at the Rancho Palos Verdes, California, USA. He just repeated earlier comments about Apple TV. It's an "area of intense interest for us," he said. "We are going to keep pulling this string and see where it takes us."

On the topic of new products, Cook firmly refused to be drawn in, saying only that "The juices are flowing [at Apple], and we have some incredible things coming out."
