Message Text: LG has announced the Optimus 4X HD, the second Tegra 3 based smartphone after Fujitsu's recently announced prototype.

The new smartphone comes with a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display and has an ultra-slim 8.9mm profile.

NVIDIA's 1.5GHz quad-core Tegra 3 chip powers the 4X HD. Tegra 3 is based on Nvidia's "4-PLUS-1" quad-core architecture - a fifth low-power "companion" core manages less strenuous tasks - like processing e-mail or operating in standby mode. As Tegra 3 varies its max clock speed with the number of active cores, it remains to be seen what the max frequency is with all four cores active. When running at full speed, the 12-core graphics processing unit (GPU) in Tegra 3 promises to deliver a visually rich experience and console-quality game playability.

The Optimus 4X HD also includes 16 GB internal memory and runs on the latest version of Android OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The smartphone boasts a 8-megapixel BSI (Backside Illumination) Sensor camera with LED flash. The smartphone also supports Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) and Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) features.

More information will be presented next week at MWC 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.
