Message Text: Samsung announced its LPDDR3 SDRAM, which is expected to be the next-generation low-power-consumption DRAM, at ISSCC 2012.

The capacity of the 30nm LPDDR3 SDRAM is 4 Gbits. The DRAM is powered by 1.2V and its maximum data transmission rate per terminal is 1.6Gbps. Using a 32-bits bus results to a maximum data transmission rate of 6.4GBps. For comparison, the maximum data transmission rate of a LPDDR2 (32-bit bus swidth) is just 3.2GBps. LPDDR2 is currently used by smartphones.

The LPDDR3 chip is backward compatible with LPDDR2 DRAM.
