Message Text: Samsung Electronics has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Apple in Australia, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

The South Korean firm alleged that its consumer electronics rival's iPhone and iPad 2 products violate some of its patents, according to the report.

The South Korean company filed on Friday a cross claim with the Federal Court of Australia alleging Apple's iPhone and iPad infringe seven patents related to wireless communications standards.

Apple and Samsung have been embroiled in a global battle over market share for both phones and tablet computers. Apple has accused Samsung of copying the iPad and iPhone and has had success in curtailing Galaxy sales in Australia and Germany. There are also lawsuits pending in the US and Asia.

Apple scored a legal victory in Germany earlier this month, when a German court barred Samsung's local unit from selling its Galaxy 10.1 tablets in Germany. Samsung has since announced it will appeal the court's decision.

The patent war between Samsung and Apple also continues in S. Korea. According to a new report from Korea Times, Samsung plans to file a lawsuit as soon as Apple makes the next version of its ubiquitous smartphone official. The company will reportedly point to patents it holds related to mobile technology and say that Apple is in violation of them.
