Message Text: Among the most interesting products at OCZ's booth at Computex this year was the RevoDrive Hybrid, a hybrid HDD/SSD PCIe SSD.

The latest addition to the RevoDrive family utilizes a large high speed NAND flash cache coupled with high density rotational media, to deliver maximized performance to density ratios for workstation usage.

The unit takes advantage of the throughput of PCI Express x4, with the SSD component able to serve as a cache for the hard drive. OCZ plans to ship the device with 2.5-inch 500GB or 1TB HDDs and 60GB or 120GB SSDs.

The SSD part of the hybrid devie is based on the RevoDrive 3 series of SSDs, which are using the SandForce SF-2200 controller.

OCZ will not be using Intel?s new Smart Response caching technology supprted by the Intel Z68 chipset, but it will be integrating Nvelo?s Dataplex software yields better performance on the PCMark Vantage benchmark. At a Computex demostration, the RevoDrive Hybrid drive scored 42,730. The RevoDrive Hybrid features blazing 575Mbps read speeds and 500Mbps write speeds.

The RevoDrive Hybrid is expected to reach the marketplace in the middle of July with a base configuration of 60GB SSD and 500GB hard drive for around $400. The 1TB HDD + 120GB SSD version will cost $100 more.

OCZ had also on display the RevoDrive 3, a next generation bootable PCI-Express SSD, designed for high-performance gaming PCs and workstations. Leveraging our proprietary VCA technology the RevoDrive 3 can accommodate a wide range of applications including multi-media creation and management applications.

The RevoDrive 3 features a PCI Express x4 interface and the two SandForce SF-2200 controllers. Nominal performance figures are 900MB/sec for read, 700MB/sec for write and 120,000 IOPS for 4K random write.

OCZ will also release the RevoDrive 3 X2. Like the RevoDrive 3, the X2 uses an onboard RAID 0 design, but it also employs four SandForce-2200 controllers versus two in the original to maximize data access and bandwidth. The result is a further performance boost to 1,500 MB/sec for read, 1.200MB/sec for write and 200,00 IOPS for 4K random write.

Available in late june, the a single card RevoDrive 3 240GB model will retail for $599 and the RevoDrive 3 X2 240GB for $699.
