Barnes And Noble Introduces New Touchscreen NOOK

Barnes & Noble on Tuesday announced a new Nook eReader, with a 6-inch touchscreen and a two-month long battery life.
The All-New NOOK features extra-long battery life, an 6-inch touchscreen E Ink Pearl display and has access to and the world?s largest bookstore available by Wi-Fi.
Now available for pre-order at www.nook.com and at Barnes & Noble stores for $139, NOOK will begin shipping on or about June 10.
The company said the new gadget will feature 50% better contrast with its updated screen, weigh in at 7.48 ounces and be about as thick as a pencil. It's also 6.5 inches tall and 5 inches wide, allowing it to fit into many pants or jacket pockets.
At only 7.48 ounces (212 grams), the All-New NOOK is lightweight and thin - 35 percent lighter and 15 percent thinner than NOOK Wi-Fi 1st Edition.
 The new Nook can store about 1,000 books and has an SD card slot for expanded memory. A concave back makes the device easy to hold "even with just one hand, and for extended periods of time," Barnes & Noble said.
With the All-New NOOK, users can enjoy a wide variety of digital content. Shop for everything from new releases and current bestsellers to classics and more, all in a single search. The NOOK Bookstore offers digital catalogs of more than two million books, magazines and newspapers. More than 80 popular national and local market newspapers and magazines are provided by NOOK Newsstand, automatically delivered to NOOK the moment they're released, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA TODAY, as well as Forbes, Reader's Digest, Discover, Fast Company and New York magazine. All periodicals are available for subscription with a 14-day free trial or via single copies.
Another way NOOK users can learn more about books is through NOOK Friends, a social experience previously available only to NOOK Color users. From the home page, users can see book recommendations from friends. Through Twitter and Facebook integrations, right from their current book, users can tweet the title they're reading, post on their Facebook wall and see what their NOOK Friends "like"on Facebook. With Barnes & Noble's LendMe technology, users can also lend eligible books to their friends at no cost for 14 days, and see and request to borrow friends? LendMe books.
And coming in the next few weeks, Barnes & Noble will offer a new custom website, mynook.com, where users can get recommendations from Barnes & Noble expert booksellers and NOOK Friends, access their NOOK Library, and manage their device.
Since the All-New NOOK is built on Android Operating System 2.1 and uses Adobe technology, device owners can also borrow digital books from their local library, a feature Barnes & Noble has always offered to NOOK device customers.
The All-New NOOK can be pre-ordered for $139 today and is expected to begin shipping on or about June 10.
Amazon, meanwhile, dropped the price of its Kindle last month by $25 to $114, though with a catch: The new Kindle with Special Offers includes advertisements on the bottom of its home screen and on screen savers.
Borders and its Kobo partner said Monday that they are taking preorders for a $130 touch-screen e-reader that launches in early June. |
