Message Text: Nvidia Geforce GTX 590 or AMD Radeon HD 6990? Both $700 graphics cards look impressive to gamers but are actually aimed at a small part of the market. Botth companies are challenging each other for the "World's Fastest Graphics Card" title.

Commenting on Nvidia's press release announcing the launch of their "World's Fastest Graphics Card" AMD Senior Public Relations Manage Dave Erskine wrote at the cimpany's blog:

"Yesterday our competitor also issued a press release, announcing the launch of what they claim to be the "World's Fastest Graphics Card" - the Nvidia GTX 590. We combed through their announcement to understand how it was that such a claim could be made and why there was no substantiation based on industry-standard benchmarks, similar to what AMD did with industry benchmark 3DMark 11, the latest DirectX 11 benchmark from FutureMark.

"So now I issue a challenge to our competitor: prove it, don't just say it. Show us the substantiation," Erskine continued. He also listed some online reviews favorable to AMD's new monster graphics card.

On the other hand, Nvidia's Drew Henry, GeForce GPU general manager, said: "The GTX 590 is the best dual GPU product ever built." Reinforcing the GTX 590's high-performance attributes, he comments: "With leading performance, support for multi-monitor 3D gaming, Quad SLI, and an acoustic envelope that begs to be heard for how quiet it is, the GTX 590 epitomizes what a perfect dual graphics card looks, performs, and sounds like."

This PR game is very common between technoloogy rivals. According to the various benchmarks of both cards with different game titles, there is not any absolute winner here. For example, in StarCraft II at high resolutions and high IQ settings the GTX 590 trounces the HD 6990. In HAWX 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Lost Planet 2 wirk better for Nvidia while in Metro 2033, F1 2010, and Aliens vs. Predator titles AMD regains its throne.

Don't forget that both parties heavily also optimised their drivers for games used by popular hardware web sites.
