 Samsung To Showcase New "Galaxy player" Music Smartphone, World's Thinnest 3D Blu-ray Player at CES 2011

Message Text: Samsung officially announced today the "Galaxy Player," a concept nusic media player based on the company's Galaxy S smartphone based on the Froyo OS.

Samsung has also developed a Blu-ray Disc player that's just 23 millimeters thick, and plans to unveil it at next week's International Consumer Electronics Show, it said Tuesday.

The device is set to make its debut next weekend at the CES conference. The Galaxy Player (YP-GB1) is 9.9-mm thick, weighs 121g and runs Android 2.2 "Froyo". It sports a 1GHz CPU, 4-inch Super Clear LCD screen with WVGA 800 x 480 resolution. It also boasts SoundAlive audio enhancing technology, GPS functionality, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 3.0, a 3.2-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing VGA camera. GPS, HD video playback, a micro-SD card slot, Android Market, and a 1200 mAh removable battery. Of course, Galaxy players will also take advantage of Google's latest mobile services (Google Maps, Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Talk, etc.)



The Galaxy Player will come in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB sizes. Samsung said that the device as well as other olayer iterations will be available in January.



In related news, Samsung is also set to unveil the hit Galaxy S smartphone in February at the 2011 Mobile World Congress, the world's largest mobile communications exhibition.

The new Galaxy is expected to run Android 2.3 and feature a dual-core processor for much quicker operations. It will also likely include an electronic payment system and gyroscope.

23mm thick 3D Blu-ray disc player

The new 3D BD player follows Samsung's 39mm thick device that debuted in 2009 and the 29mm Blu-ray player model launched in 2010.

The stylish all-metal device can be mounted on the wall and offers playback of Blu-ray 3D discs as well as 2D to 3D conversion of video and still images. Other features include access to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and USA Today as well as many apps available at Samsung's ap store.

The player has received the CES 2011 Best Innovation Award.

During the recent "black Friday" sales-promotion period in the U.S., Blu-ray Disc player sales more than doubled compared to last year at over 400,000 units, said NPD Group. 3D-compatible players accounted for 15 percent of those sales.

Samsung did not disclose pricing details or any other technical data for the new device.
