Lite-On IT Corp. estimates its shipments of slim disc drives for 2010 will shoot up 142% year on year to 31.1 million systems, unseating Quanta Storage Inc. as the world`s No.3 supplier of this type of disc drives.
Lite-On previously lagged behind Quanta in the field of slim disc drives although it has been the world`s No.2 and Taiwan's No.1 supplier of all types of disc drives. The company projects the shipments for 2011 at 41.8 million systems, a gain of 34% from 2010.
Quanta is estimated to ship 17.1 slim disc drives in 2010 alone, contracting 34% from 2009.
