Sharp E-Bookstore Service to Launch on December 10

Sharp will launch its TSUTAYA GALAPAGOS e-bookstore service featuring a selection of periodical publications, including newspapers, and magazines that are automatically delivered to its new tablets.
Also, prior to the start of this service, Sharp will begin
accepting preorders for its "GALAPAGOS" tablets on December 3,
2010.
Sharp will release two versions of iys new tablet. The smaller
device has a 5.5" LCD (1024 x 600) display and the other one has
a 10.8" (1366 x 800) display, priced at 39,800 yen and 54,800
yen, respectively. Both models are running on the Android
operating system, they are IEEE 802.11b/g compliant (support
AOSS/WPS) and have a microSD/microSDHC memory card slot, a
headphone output and a miniUSB port. The tablets allow users to
enjoy magazines formatted across a two-page spread. Both devices
will feature a track ball for easy flipping of pages pages and
will support the XMDF format. PC data, including documents and
maps, can be converted to XMDF format and can be viewed on the
media tablet. In adition, the tablets will feature a web browser
and social network service applications.
The launch of the new reader comes four months after Apple's
iPad was launched in Japan and is set to clash with a domestic offering from Sony.
Sharp also plans to expand its service offering to include
movies, music and games in the spring of 2011. The E-Bookstore
service will be also compatible with
Sharp?s smartphones in 2011. |
