Message Text: AU Optronics will soon showcase for the first time a series of the latest 3D display technologies: the world's largest 71" 21:9 Cinema Scope HD (CSHD) 3D TV LCD panel; a large, interactive 3D touch panel solution with video game applications; a leading 65" QFHD 4K2K lenticular lens 3D LCD TV panel; and an array of 3D displays for various applications at FPD International 2010 in Japan from November 10 to 12.

Glasses-free 3D notebook panel

The company will showcase the world's first deadzone-free naked eye 3D notebook panel at FPD International 2010. AUO combines lenticular lens 3D technology with SuperD's naked eye 3D solution to create deadzone-free 15.6" notebook and 10.1" tablet PC 3D panels that do not require the use of special glasses.

With an eye-tracking system that captures viewers' eyeball movements, AUO's deadzone-free naked eye 3D technology overcomes the confined viewing angles of conventional 3D displays. Regardless of location, the viewers will be able to perceive 3D images of equally high quality, the company claims.

The new 3D panels deliver high brightness and Moire-free image quality. Both 2D and 3D modes can operate concurrently on the same display, and the viewer can switch back and forth between the two modes while retaining high resolution.

At this year's FPD International 2010, AUO will showcase the world's first deadzone-free naked eye 3D displays, including the 15.6" Full HD and 10.1" WXGA panels. They will be suitable for notebook and tablet PC displays and will be expected to be mass produced beginning in the third quarter of 2011.

AUO has been focusing on the development of 3D display technologies. The efforts include the early deployment of patents, such as the acquisition of lenticular lens 3D display solution from Ocuity. In addition, AUO has collaborated with SuperD, the leading naked eye 3D solution provider, to introduce SuperD naked eye 3D solution in 3D panels. AUO will invest HK$60 million in SuperD and acquire 10% of its shareholding. Together, AUO and SuperD will work to enhance 3D display technologies and to improve production capabilities for the advancement of naked eye 3D information display technology.

71" CSHD 3D TV panel

AUO will also present the world's largest 71" CSHD 3D TV panel. The 21:9 ultra-wide screen offers a theatrical experience of high quality 3D images. The panel is designed with a 240Hz double frame rate, LED scanning backlight and optimized parameters for better motion flow. Wearing polarized 3D glasses, audiences will be able to enter a lifelike stereoscopic world filled with images of high clarity and brightness.

65" QFHD 4K2K 3D LCD panel

AUO will also exhibit a naked eye 3D display solution: the 65" QFHD 4K2K lenticular lens 3D panel. The company claims that its proprietary technology has resolved the problem of uneven brightness that occurs with conventional 3D displays, raising the resolution of a single viewpoint to high definition. The 3D panel has brightness as high as 500 nits, with eight viewpoints. Its fine image quality is suitable for commercial use.

In response to the growing demand for interactive 3D multimedia, AUO has combined its 65" full HD 3D display with an advanced 3D interactive solution for gaming. The infrared video camera detects the player's movements as he or she interacts with the 3D images. Reacting in real time to lifelike 3D images, players can enjoy an amazing gaming experience.

AUO will also showcase a 4" 3D interactive touch panel suitable for use with smartphones, video game consoles and tablet PCs. The light pen and touch panel are integrated for the first time so that users can move within three dimensions?horizontally, vertically and in depth. For players of interactive 3D games, a fun and interesting 3D world becomes readily accessible. Adding spice to the mobile life, the 4" portrait / landscape barrier 3D touch panel leads the industry by allowing users to freely move their fingers about on the touch panel and switch between 2D and 3D modes in portrait or landscape positions.
