Message Text: Japanese Pulstec unveiled three new systems for quality check of DVD and Blu-ray optical disc, as well as a new device for testing the recording parameters of BD-R/RE media.

The new "SER-1000 SER (Viterbi) checker" measures the Symbol Error Rate (SER) of recorded Blu-ray discs, a parameter used to evaluate the writing quality of a disc. The USB device is offering graphical presentations of the errors' position and measures a BD-R SL disc at a speed of 8X.

The second device is the "DC-1000 Disc Checker," which can be used for the evaluation of the quality of rrecorded CD, DVD and BD discs. The device can be easily operated and comes with a GUI. The device is automaticaly measures each disc at the maximum reading speed, but in case of the measured error rate is high, the reading (scanning) speed can be reduced.

Pulstec also released the "WR-1000 BD Writer," a device used for testing the writing strategy for recording of BD-R and BD-RE discs. Based on a Pioneer BD burner, the WR-1000 BD Writer allows ODD makers to adjust the laser's power and writing strategy for each disc, burn data at specific positions of the disc, measure the power margin in combination with a BD tester and also perform simple SER (Viterbi) measurements after recording.
