Google said on Friday thet the Chinese government has renewed its operating licence.
Google announced the news on its blog:
"We are very pleased that the government has renewed our ICP license and we look forward to continuing to provide web search and local products to our users in China," the blog post reads.
This means that Google can keep operating its google.cn website.
Google announced in January that it would no longer censor the searches on its Chinese website. The a statement exposed the starkly different views between the US and China about how the internet should be managed. To deal with China's complaints,
Google deciced
to automatically redirect users of google.cn to its Hong Kong website, which operates outside of mainland Chinese restrictions. However the Chinese government had deemed the redirect scheme "unacceptable".
But the latest news indicate that China has finally accepted Google's approach and approved the company's ICP license renewal application.
