Message Text: LG Display has commenced mass production at its second 8th generation plant P8E (Extension) in Paju Display Cluster.

P8E will primarily manufacture 32-, 47- and 55-inch TV LCD panels from its 2,200mm X 2,500mm glass substrates. Production began in May with initial monthly capacity of 30,000 input sheets. LG Display said that it had invested KRW 3,270 billion in the line, excluding the building cost.

LG Display will flexibly adjust the ramp-up speed according to market conditions and steadily build up its monthly capacity to 120,000 input sheets by the year's end.

Along with the rapid growth of LCD TV market on strong performance by the LED LCD and 3D TV and surging demand from emerging markets, the demand was also stimulated by LG Display?s key customers as they make major advances in LCD TV market. LG Display expects that the start of production at P8E will enhance its ability to respond to strong market demands and achieve mutual growth with its customers.

Market researcher DisplaySearch reported that global LCD TV market broke through the 100 million mark for the first time in 2008 to reach 113 million units. The number grew to 163 million units in 2009 and is forecast to continue its fast-paced growth to post 195 million units in 2010 and 216 million units in 2011.
