Message Text: NEC Corp on Monday unveiled a prototype desktop PC that enables users to watch 3D video programs.

NEC plans to release a commercial model by the end of September at prices 15,000 to 20,000 yen higher than conventional desktop PCs, the company said.

The PC is equipped with a Blu-ray disc drive that allows users to watch 3D movies and other software, designed for 3D TVs, with special glasses. The PC has also a built-in TV tuner.

This is NEC's second attempt to enter the 3D market with a new computer model. In 2004, NEC released a laptop PC that incorporated 3D technology, but the device failed to create demand due in part to its high price of around 400,000 yen. However, the 3D market is likely to gain further momentum as Taiwanese manufacturer Asus is also releasing its 3D personal computer on Saturday for a suggested retail price of 209,800 yen,

NEC also plans to introduce 3D laptops this year.
