Message Text: LG Electronics said Monday they will unveil new phones at the annual CTIA wireless show in Las Vegas, as they seek to consolidate their lead in the North American handset market

LG, which trails Samsung and Nokia in global handset sales, said it plans to showcase about 30 new handset models tailored to specific needs and age groups.

LG is set to display its second model based on Android system and a Qwerty-based messaging phone, the 'Remark' (LG-LN240) targeting young consumers whose major usage of mobile handset is exchanging text messages. The phone has a QWERTY keyboard and offers advanced email capabilities. It will be available in the U.S. from Sprint.

In addition, LG will have on display the LG-GT540, LG-GW820, LG-GW620, LG-GW550 and LG-GM750 smartphones.

The S. Korean company will also hold live demostrations of caommunications using its LTE (Long Term Evolution) terminal, which offers speeds of up to 100Mbps and 50Mbps for downloading and uploading, respectively.

CTIA, or the Wireless Association, formerly known as Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, hosts the largest industry show in North America with representatives from over 1,100 companies from the mobile and telecommunications industry expected to attend this year.

LG's rival Samsung will also unveil new phones at the annual CTIA wireless show. The company will showcase many new phones and its latest mobile platform, Bada.

Samsung's new models for North America include phones targeting youngsters enthusiastic about social networking services, such as the full touch-based Sunburst and Qwerty-keyboard based Strive, the company said.
