Message Text: Google is poised to unveil its over-hyped mobile phone that uses its Android software at a press event today, seeking to wrest consumers from Apple and RIM.

The phone is expected to be based on the latest version of Android OS (v2.1) and it bilt by HTC. It comes with a 3.7-inch (9.4- centimeter) AMOLED touchscreen (480 x 800), a 5-megapixel camera, uses Qualcomm?s 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and has 512MB of both RAM and ROM. The device also features a 3.5nn headphone jack, a micro-USB port, a mic hole and also contains a light sensor, proximity sensor and acceleromemer. According to early reports, the new Nexus One phone has also a HSPA-capable GSM radio, WiFi, and a microSD slot. Nexus One is also just 11.5mm thin and it measures 59.8mm and 119mm across and up and down.

Technology news and review Web site Engadget has already described the new phone as "handsome" though not necessarily an iPhone "eviscerator," in a preview of an engineering sample of the phone.

Technology blog Gizmodo, citing leaked documents, said the Nexus One will cost 530 dollars "unlocked" -- meaning it isn't tied to a specific carrier -- or 180 dollars with a two-year service agreement with T-Mobile, a subsidiary of Germany's Deutsche Telekom AG.

Today?s event, described by Google as an "Android Press Gathering," starts at 1 p.m. New York time.
