Japanese I-O Data today announced plans to release later this month the BRP-US6, a new portable 6x Blu-ray disc burner.
The external slim-type drive supports read/write on Blu-ray discs and can be connected to a notebook through a USB2.0 interface.
Basic specifications include 6x burning for BD-R SL, 2x for BD-R DL/BD-RE and 6x reading with BD-ROM discs. The drive can also burn on DVD-R/+R at 8x, on DVD-RW/+RW at 6x and 5x on DVD-RAM discs. The 24x/24x/24x capabilities as a CD-RW burner complete its specification list
The compact drive (dimensions 137(W) x 154(D) x 20(H) mm) weights 330g (AC adaptor excluded).
The drive is based on a Sony-Optiarc reference design. It will retail in Japan in the middle of this month for JPY 29,600 ($340,50)
