Message Text: Opera released Opera 10.10 with Opera Unite, a technology for personal content sharing directly between all your devices. Opera Unite is available as a standard feature in Opera 10.10.

By wrapping both a Web browser and a Web server into one package, Opera Unite challenges the conventional, semi-private methods of sharing the content.

"We promised Opera Unite would reinvent the Web," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. "What we are really doing is reinventing how we as consumers interact with the Web. By giving our devices the ability to serve content, we become equal citizens on the Web. In an age where we have ceded control of our personal data to third-parties, Opera Unite gives us the freedom to choose how we will share the data that belongs to us."

Opera Unite initially includes the following Opera Unite applications, which are small Web-service programs running inside the Opera 10.10 browser.

Opera Unite Home
Your personal Opera Unite Web page shows the Opera Unite applications you wish to share with family, friends, or the world.

File Sharing
The File Sharing application enables a simple and safe way to share files directly from your computer.

Fridge
The Fridge application enables people to leave notes on your computer.

Media Player
The Media Player application enables access to your complete home music library from wherever you are.

Messenger
A personal and private chat connection between you and another Opera Unite user who is listed as your friend on myopera.com.

Photo Sharing
The Photo Sharing application enables you to share your personal photos with friends around the world without the need to upload them.

Web Server
The Web Server application enables you to host your Web sites from your own computer.

Opera 10.10 allows users to share 10 GB of photos directly from a browser using the Photo Sharing application. It also allows them to stream an entire music library to another computer, mobile phone or game console with the the Media Player application. In addition, Opera Turbo speeds up a network connection, giving users eight-times-faster Web surfing over slow connections than other browsers, Opera claims.

Opera Unite allows data to be received and sent out using any kind of device - from in-dash computers in trucks to entertainment systems in airplanes or a netbook in North Dakota to a phone in North Africa.

The device-to-device communication changes the way users interact with applications and their data. A phone can become a remote control for a home and computers can supply data to friends and family around the world.

Opera is inviting developers to submit new Opera Unite applications. For more nformation visit my.opera.com/community/blog/2009/10/23/battle-for-the-best-opera-unite-applications.

Opera Unite is available as a standard feature in Opera 10.10, available free from www.opera.com.
