Sony plans to showcase a small device that packs a stereoscopic color image viewable at 360-degrees without special glasses at Tokyo's Digital Content EXP0 2009 on Thursday.
The dimensions of the 3D cylindrical display prototype is just 13 x 27cm and includes a stereoscopic, 24-bit color image measuring just 96 x 128 pixels. The image is viewable at 360-degrees without special glasses.
Sony said that the protytype could be used in digital signage or medical imaging, television, telephone or visualizer to assist with web shopping in the home.
Sony is heavily promoting 3D imaging and has pledged to launch next year a LCD television that can show 3D images. The company also intends to build 3D support into its PlayStation 3 games console, Vaio laptop computers and its Blu-ray Disc players.
The Digital Contents Expo begins on Thursday and will run until Sunday at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo's Daiba district.
