VAIO L Series Puts TV, Internet and Blu-ray Disc Movies One Touch Away

Sony unveiled its new touch-enabled, multi-media machine - the VAIO L Touch HD PC/TV.

The VAIO L Series' multi-touch screen offers easy access to the PC, HDTV, DVR.

Equipped with a 24-inch (diagonal) WUXGA (1920x1080) widescreen panel, the unit displays high-definition content in Full HD resolution.

Select models feature a Blu-ray Disc optical drive. A rewritable BD drive for recording, storing and playing back personal content on high-capacity BD media is also available.

Select models feature a built-in tuner so users can connect to their digital cable TV service and Over-The-Air (ATSC) HD TV signals (antenna required) and watch television on their PC.

An optional HDMI input is available, so in addition to the unit's built-in HD features users can connect a compatible HD cable box, satellite receiver or PLAYSTATION 3 (all sold separately) via a single cable and enjoy HD entertainment without powering on the PC.

And with built-in DVR capabilities and up to a terabyte of storage, users can create a personal entertainment library with up to 100 hours of HD television.

It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional 64-bit operating system. Leveraging these new operating systems, the L Series is able to offer new functionalities such as a touch screen display.

Launch directly into Sony's own Media Gallery software by pushing the designated VAIO button on the keyboard and create high-quality home movies and slideshows in three simple steps. Users can also import photos and video, choose a theme and soundtrack, click finish and the software does the rest, generating a movie complete with special effects - all by touching the screen.

The unit packs an Intel Core 2 Quad processor (select models), loads of RAM, and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce series graphics for graphic-intense gaming and movies.

The notebooks also come equipped with a built-in wireless 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi technology.

The model has a mounting capability that allows users to attach a VESA-compatible mount to it and hang it on the wall.

When not mounted to the wall, the L Series features an adjustable stand to help userrs adjust the unit to meet their desired viewing or touch angle or simply to decrease the slant for space-saving. A wireless keyboard, mouse and remote control are included.

The VAIO L Touch HD PC/TV will start at about $1,300. It is available for pre-orders today online at www.sonystyle.com/pr/l. It will also be sold at Sony Style stores and select U.S. retailers starting next month.

New VAIO X Series

Sony also took the wraps off the world's lightest notebook - the VAIO X Series.

Housed in a lightweight carbon-fiber chassis, the X Series weighs just1.6 pounds (with standard battery) and is just over a half-inch thin - roughly the width of a cell phone.

It features a 16:9 aspect ratio 11.1-inch (diagonal) LED backlight display.

The X Series is also supplied with both a standard and super-extended capacity battery, delivering up to 3.5 hours for the standard battery and up to 14 hours for the super-extended capacity battery.

The unit's touchpad features a multi-touch functionality commonly associated with touch-enabled smartphones. This means that users can zoom in and out, flip through pictures, rotate items clockwise and counterclockwise, and scroll vertically and horizontally without ever touching the mouse.

The X Series integrates wireless 3G Mobile Broadband technology provided by Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband Built-In, Wi-Fi (802.11n), and Bluetooth wireless technologies. For 3G Mobile Broadband technology, a separate Verizon service subscription is required.

The model also incorporates real-time GPS functionality. Destinations can be found by simply typing in an address or keyword and then following the turn-by-turn directions. It even includes estimated drive times to let you know how far you are from a destination (United States or Canada only). No Internet connection is required in the United States or Canada.

The X Series incorporates a solid state drive (SSD) used in place of the spinning hard disk drive found in most computers. It will come with Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

The VAIO X Series notebook will come in two colors, black and gold, and start at about $1,300. It is available for pre-orders today online at www.sonystyle.com/pr/x. It will also be sold at Sony Style stores and select U.S. retailers starting next month.

The Colorful New VAIO CW Series Notebooks

The CW Series notebook features a 14-inch (diagonal) widescreen display with a 16:9 aspect ratio in a thin-and-light chassis.

The notebook features an optional Blu-ray Disc drive. It also lets users playback HD content on your compatible big screen HDTV, via the unit's incorporated HDMI output. An incorporated NVIDIA GeForce dedicated graphics card ensures users get the best out of their HD entertainment.

It comes in five colors: red, pink, white, black and purple.

Sony's VAIO Movie Story software breaks complex movie production into three simple steps, freeing users from tedious hours spent mastering difficult and expensive video editing software.

The VAIO CW series notebook starts at about $780. It will be available at the end of the month online at www.sonystyle.com/cwseries, Sony Style stores and at other major retailers in the U.S.
