Message Text: Fujitsu, NEC and Sony are ofering free firmware update for specific PCs and Blu-ray players equipped with a faulty Seagate hard disk drive.

Seagate announced that a firmware issue had been identified that affected a small number of Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 hard drive models which may result in data becoming inaccessible after a power-off/on operation. The affected products are Barracuda 7200.11, Barracuda ES.2 SATA, and DiamondMax 22.

According to Fujitsu and NEC, specific PCs that carried these hard disk drives could not start up. The companies will send a CD-ROM with a firmware fix to their clients that have registered their devices in the following days. For information and a list of the affected PCs, visit http://121ware.com/navigate/support/nec-hdc/ and http://azby.fmworld.net/support/info/20090210/.

Sony's BDZ-X95/BDZ-L95 Blu-ray recorders were also hit by the HDD failure and the company will also offer a free repair for the specific products, which went on sale in Japan last September. For more information visit http://www.sony.jp/bd/support/information/20090210.html.
