Message Text: In a bid to clear inventories, large retail channels in the US have slashed the prices of entry-level Blu-ray players.

The first generation of BD players by Sony, Sharp, Samsung and LG are currently sold in the US for less than $300, which is a 25% discount over the previous prices.

Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Amazon and other large retail channels offer the Samsung BD-P1400 for US$298.

The first generation of Blu-ray players offer reproduction of Blu-ray movies but they lack support for the advanced features of the latest Blu-ray releases.
