 Philips Will Reportedly Stop Making DVD Recorders

Message Text: Philips will stop producing DVD recorders next year, a move in line with Philips? previously commitment to take decisive steps to improve the profitability levels.

The information was reported by the Financieele Dagblad newspaper on Wednesday.

According to the paper, the Dutch company will not invest the DVD recorders business after after September and no more recorders will be introduced in 2009.

Philips will most probably transfer the responsibility for sourcing, distribution, marketing and sales of its branded DVD recorders to another company.

On Tuesday, Philips announced that its will stop manufacturing computer screens and outsource production to TPV.

In April of this year, Philips already announced it would transfer its consumer television operations in North America, while at the same time it said it would take steps to further optimize its global supply base in TV.
