Message Text: Toshiba unveiled its upcoming products at Ceatec Japan 2007, including a new HD DVD recorder prototype and two new HD DVD players.

The Japanese company showcased the RD-X7 HD DVD recorder, which is capable of burning HD DVD video in DVD media. The function is called "HD-Rec" and it was recently approved by the DVD Forum. The "HD REC" function allows recording of HD DVD video content on red-laser DVD-R/RW/RAM media. This means that two hours of MPEG4 AVC/H.264 video (4Mbps) will be recorded on a DVD disc. In addition, the new recorder will be able to burn encode video in the sufficient MPEG4 AVC/H.264 format and store it in HD DVD-R media or in the available HDD.

The new model will also expected to support output of 1080/24p video in DeerColor HDMI interface, as well as Toshiba's REGZA link for easy connection with Toshiba's compatible products.

Toshiba also showcased two HD DVD players, featuring an extra slim design. The upcoming RD-A202 and RD-A101 are expected in the Japanese market before Christmas.
