Message Text: Quality control leader DaTARIUS has just released its Calibration Disc Set for HD DVD-ROM.

The set consists of reference single (HD DVD-15) and dual layer (HD DVD-30) discs, all produced under the same exacting conditions.

This set is delivered as standard with each HD DVD DaTABANK analyzer system, and is used to calibrate all HD DVD driveCubes. All discs are certified against a 'round robin' test with A-Lab-class facilities, and each set is delivered with these reference measurements.

Applicable equipment delivered to this calibration standard:

HD DVD Analyzer 1X: measurement of pre-recorded and recorded HD DVD discs, single and dual layer.

HD DVD Analyzer Stamper 1X: measurement of pre-recorded and recorded HD DVDs, single and dual layer, and measurement of pre-recorded stampers.

The DaTABANK with DaTAVIEW user interface software offers, as standard, calibration compensation on three positions per data layer. This can be easily customized to add more positions and, for example, reference alternative user-generated secondary calibration media using the DaTAVIEW-integrated Calibration Editor.

"At the moment there are no certified reference media for HD DVD available for manufacturers. However, this is an issue on which the DVD Forum is working intensively," says Dr Wlodek Mischke, Director of Research, DaTARIUS Group. "DaTARIUS is actively involved in the Forum?s programme as chair of one of the Calibration working groups. In addition, DaTARIUS regularly measures various HD discs with ?round robin? tests to the same exacting standards as those in Class A verification labs."

"We believe that the calibration discs coming out of our calibration-related activities within the DVD Forum are establishing a solid base for the precise and proper measurements of our testing equipment for HD DVD."
